Treating For Chinch Bugs

To treat for chinch bugs, you need to apply a liquid insecticide (a synthetic pyrethroid like Bifenthrin, Permethrin, Cypermethrin or Deltamethrin) three times over a 21-day period ... or once every five to seven days ... up to four applications at most. Sadly, most people who try to treat for chinch bugs use a granular insecticide or they only make one application of liquid insecticide.

Dear Homeowner,

A recent survey of the homeowner’s front yards has identified your residence as having lawn damage due to chinch bugs and/or grubs and /or fungus. The Homeowners Association is only responsible for fertilization of your front yard 3 times a year. Proper watering, disease control, insect control and fungus control always has been and continues to be YOUR responsibility.

Areas in yards that have an ashy or white grass means the grass roots are dead and these areas will need replacing in addition to chemically treating the areas to make sure the insects/disease are brought under control.

If you are not inclined to performing –do it your self-- remediation activities on your yard there are companies available to perform this service for you. Some suggestions are:

·         Chem Lawn

·         Green thumb

·         Our community lawn service company –Ed Wright. (281-610-6024)

Ed Wright has been contacted by the Association Board and is agreeable to assisting the homeowner in diagnosing the problem and executing a plan of action. The cost for this service (as with the other 2 listed) is the responsibility of the individual homeowner.

Your Association Board has been approached in the past by residents inquiring about the lawn care being totally the responsibility of the lawn maintenance contractor (including disease/insect control). While this is possible there is a cost associated with this service and the Association Board, in an attempt to keep the yearly fees at their current level and current programs/capital improvements moving forward , has elected to keep the policy of the individual homeowners being responsible for lawn insects/disease control. Your Board again will be looking at the possibility of Total Contractor yard care.  The Association Board has asked our lawn care contractor to prepare a plan and cost for this service as we move closer to preparing the 2005 budget. As this information /budget begins being developed this information and the decision making reasoning for including or not including this service in the future will be shared with all homeowners through the newsletter, web site, dialog with your Board members, and your welcomed attendance at the monthly Board meetings.

In the mean time please take appropriate actions to improve the appearance and condition of your lawn. Also notify the management company ( Debbie---at 832-864-1250 ) with your plan of action/timing for corrective action.

The appearance of our community (e.g. lawns) is essential to its attractiveness and maintaining maximum property value. You cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
